The Soil Never Sleeps live in Kent
I am looking forward very much to returning to the hay meadows of Romshed Farm in Underriver, Kent this weekend for two readings and farm walks.
Romshed Farm, which had been there in some form since the time of the Domesday Book, is owned by Fidelity Weston, and is one of the farms I visited while writing The Soil Never Sleeps. It was an inspiring place to visit, not least because you can walk into views that are almost exactly, still, as Samuel Palmer painted them nearly 200 years ago.
There will be two events: first, on Saturday 30th June, for the Sevenoaks Festival, I will be reading from The Soil Never Sleeps, followed by a walk through the farmland, revisiting the sights and sounds from the poems, and tea.On Sunday 1st July, there will be a shorter, free event sponsored by Kent Downs AONB.
Tickets are limited for both events, though there are a few left for each at the moment.
Sat 30th June 2.30 -5pm. Tickets available, £10, through The Sevenoaks Festival Box office – 01732 450175 or online www.stagsevenoaks.co.ukSunday 1st July, 10am-12noon – this event is sponsored by the Kent Downs AONB and is free, with tea, coffee and cake available to buy.
